Sealyham Terrier...

The Sealyham Terrier originates from Wales and was developed to be the ultimate working Terrier — fast and fearless as a hunter, and tough and agile enough to slip down a badger hole. Sealyham Terriers are lively, people-loving, feisty, and always great company. Distinguishing them, then, is down to appearance, which is the most eccentric with his long fringe! While the Sealyham Terrier has a reputation for being obstinate, most owners say they are affectionate and protective towards their families and sociable with other humans.

The Sealyham's double coat requires regular maintenance. The coat is soft with a dense undercoat and a hard, wiry top coat. A twice weekly grooming will help to prevent mats from forming. Stripping is needed for show dogs. The "show coat" is regularly hand stripped with the long and dead hairs plucked out by hand. A "pet coat" can be clipped for everyday wear with monthly clipping of the head and topcoat, and scissoring on the legs and face. Regular brushing is required to keep the coat tangle and mat free. The coat does not shed easily so needs to be brushed thoroughly 2-3 times a week at least, ideally daily. Pet owners can clip the coat, but the trademark fringe still needs a daily comb to prevent matting.
