Pharaoh Hound...

The modern Pharaoh Hound bears a remarkable resemblance to the Egyptian god, Anubis, the Jackal god of about 3000 BC. It is believed that the Phoenicians took ancestors of the Pharaoh Hound from the eastern Mediterranean to the islands of Malta and Gozo, where they have lived for more than 2000 years. The Pharaoh Hound is a friendly, calm, intelligent, trainable, playful and active dog, reserved with strangers, but affectionate with its family. It has a strong hunting instinct, and caution should be observed when it is around small pets such as cats, birds, and rodents.

The Pharaoh Hound needs little grooming. It is only necessary to remove dead and loose hairs with a rubber brush. The Pharaoh Hound is a clean dog with no doggy odor. The Pharaoh Hound is an average shedder with a short, shiny, somewhat coarse coat. Though these dogs are very clean and don't have any dog odor, they can benefit from an occasional brushing with a rubber brush to remove dead hear. Baths or dry shampoos should be given only when needed.
