Lhasa Apso...

The land of Tibet was the home of the Lhasa Apso - the breed taking its name from the sacred city of Lhasa. The Lhasa Apso is also known by the other names of Abso Seng Kye (translated as “bark lion sentinel dog”). This little dog is a member of the utility group. They were first used as indoor guards of the temples and as companions for the monks of these temples. Lhasa apsos are intelligent, devoted and compassionate dogs. They do enjoy the company of children.

The biggest challenge in caring for them involves grooming the dense coat, which requires regular brushing and bathing. The Lhasa Apso requires weekly care and grooming. A regular routine also ensures that any potential health problems are identified as quickly as possible, especially important in puppies and older Lasa Apso dogs. Daily grooming is very helpful with a full-coated Lhasa Apso. The substantial coat can easily become matted especially when exposed to moisture. Lhasa Apsos are average shedders with a long, dense coat that requires frequent grooming. To prevent mats and tangles, daily brushing is recommended, though the coat can be cut shorter to cut down on maintenance. In addition, the eyes and ears need to be regularly and thoroughly cleaned. Dry shampoos can be given when needed.
