Developed in Russia, the Borzoi was popular amongst aristocrats, and was bred to track and hunt wolves. A graceful, dignified, and mild mannered dog, the Borzoi is an affectionate creature with a distinct calmness about him. Although independent and quiet when indoors, this is a dog that is very active and fast. This breed is usually quite reserved when it comes to strangers. The adult Borzoi needs plenty of exercise due to his characteristic coursing hound build.

The Borzoi has a long, silky coat that sheds heavily with the seasons. Their coats are moderately easy to maintain. Borzois need a bi-monthly general grooming and a full grooming every 6 to 8 weeks. Baths or dry shampoos should be given only when necessary. The grooming goal of a Borzoi is a natural look and maintain the natural outline of the breed. Don't over groom this breed.
